What cable do I need to hook up panasonic SD micro DV 22xoptical zoom minicam corder to my computer?
It initially records on to digital vidoecassettes DV (mini DV) and I want to get the movie off the cassettes on to my computer and then on to a dvd disc... The cam recorder is a panasonic SD w/22x Optical Zoom and 800x Digital Zoom that uses micro DV....
ALL miniDV tape based camcorder connect the same way... with a firewire cable. Firewire, i.LINK, DV and IEEE1394a are all the same thing. The firewire was not included in the box with the camcorder - you need to buy it separately.
You did not tell us what computer you have or whether it has a firewire port.
Connect the firewire cable to the DV port of the camcorder to the firewire port of the computer. If your computer does not have a firewire port, they are generally cheap - and easy to add. The camcorder should be plugged into the wall for AC power, too. The camcorder needs to be in "Play" or "VCR" mode.
If Windows, launch MovieMaker and "Capture" the video. If Macintosh, launch iMovie and "Import" the video. Edit the video.
Presuming your computer has a DVD burner, use whatever DVD authoring application you need to use... Could be any number of apps in Windows (you would have bought) or in Macintosh, iDVD.
MicroDV is a different format - and is not miniDV. Which one is it?
