Would I stand a chance against a lion?
An adult male lion. Assuming I have a 7 shot .45 pistol and a spare magazine. But I am a novice shooter.
I don't know much about guns, so I'm not sure how powerful a .45 pistol is, but lions have been known to keep charging with a rifle bullet smack between their eyes, and have even killed the shooter. Given that you are a novice, you'd be unlikely to get a perfect head shot, and even if you did the lion would be quite likely to reach you and maul you anyway. Lions are immensely powerful animals - they are capable of breaking your neck with one blow from a paw - so I wouldn't say your chances of survival are great.
By the way, despite what one of your answerers suggests, you should NOT play dead if confronted by a lion. For one thing, lions happily eat carrion, and for another they could easily smell whether you're alive or dead anyway. The best thing to do is raise your arms and shout, making yourself appear more intimidating. You should never run, as this will make you seem like prey and trigger the hunting instinct.
